A Light Bee or a Sting is a lot of bike for a first rider. The limit that works is one the rider cannot undo, that you can raise as they improve, and that comes off in one press when it is your turn. Here is how to set it up on a stock bike, with nothing modified.
The short answer
Give the young rider their own profile with their own speed and power ceiling. The limits are enforced on the bike itself, not on a phone, so switching the phone off, going offline, reinstalling the app or borrowing a friend’s phone changes nothing. You decide whether they may change limits at all. When it is your turn, your own profile comes back with one press on the bars.

Why a wire cut or a fixed kit is the wrong tool for a child
Cutting the limiter wire or fitting a restrictor kit gives the bike one fixed speed, permanently. A child improves in months, and the bike cannot follow. Undoing it means a workshop, and until then nobody gets the full bike.
A limit set from the display is a number, and numbers can change. Start low, raise it as confidence grows, and keep the full performance available for yourself.

Questions parents ask
Can my child remove the limit?
Not if you lock their profile. Limits live on the bike, so turning the phone off, going offline, reinstalling the app or using another phone does not lift them. Only the owner’s profile can.
What speed should I set?
Start lower than feels necessary and raise it as they show control. Riders commonly begin around 15 km/h off road and move to 25 km/h once braking and cornering are confident. Any number is possible.
Can I change it later?
Yes, in seconds, from the app or from the bars. The limit is a number, not a part, so nothing has to be refitted.
Does it work on a stock Light Bee X?
Yes. The stock SurRon controller cannot be reprogrammed, so the display holds the limit itself. Nothing on the bike is modified, and lifting the limit returns full stock performance.
Can two riders share one bike with different limits?
Yes. Each rider has their own profile with their own limits, and switching between them takes one press on the bars.
Will I know if they crash?
If the display detects a crash and it is not cancelled from the bars within a few seconds, your emergency contacts receive a message with the location.
Does limiting the speed harm the motor or battery?
No. A lower speed and a softer throttle ask less of both. Heat, deep discharges and charging habits are what shorten a battery’s life, not riding slower.
