Sur-Ron Storm Bee tuning

Sur-Ron Storm Bee tuning - dialling in a powerful, full-size electric motorcycle platform: controller (MCU) tuning, high-voltage battery and cooling upgrades, plus drivetrain and chassis setup for off-road or street use. Everything is built and programmed in our Kaunas workshop - we develop complex custom systems in-house and program ASI and SiliXcon controllers. Parts ship across the EU and worldwide, or send us the bike or the part for repair and programming.

Full-size power that needs intelligent tuning

The Storm Bee is not a scaled-up Light Bee - it is a separate, full-size electric motocross platform with a high-voltage system and a serious chassis. Precisely because factory power is already high, tuning here is not about „more amps“, but about a balanced controller, battery, cooling and drivetrain package that lasts.

How the Storm Bee differs from the Light Bee and Ultra Bee

  • Higher voltage. The Storm Bee runs a considerably higher system voltage than the Light Bee X, so components and wiring have to be rated for it.
  • Stronger motor. Factory peak power reaches around 22.5 kW - close to a light petrol motocross class.
  • Full-size chassis. A longer wheelbase and stronger suspension let you actually use the extra power off-road.
  • Different thermal load. Higher currents mean more heat - cooling becomes a core part of the tune.

03  Tuning stages

From diagnostics to maximum power - in stages

We work in stages, so that every jump in power is backed by the right battery, cooling and gearing. You can stop at any stage - each one is complete and safe on its own.

0

Diagnostics and preparation STAGE 0

Full electronics and battery inspection, controller condition, audit of connectors and insulation. We establish the baseline and agree the goal: off-road, street or mixed use.

DIAGNOSTICSBMS CHECKSAFETY
1

Controller tuning STAGE 1

Reconfiguring the factory controller (MCU): current limits, throttle response, torque curve and regenerative braking. More control and more power without changing hardware - this is the usual first step.

MCU REFLASHTHROTTLE MAPREGEN
2

Power components and cooling STAGE 2

A high-current controller (e.g. eBMX or SiliXcon), a properly built power loom with QS8 connectors and thicker 6AWG cables, improved motor and controller cooling. This is where the real, lasting power gain comes from.

EBMX / SiliXconQS8 · 6AWGCOOLING
3

Battery and chassis STAGE 3

A custom high-voltage battery with higher discharge current and a properly matched BMS, gear ratio (sprocket) changes to suit the goal, brake and tyre upgrades. The whole package is balanced to work as one unit.

04  Systems

The elements we tune together

A powerful Storm Bee is not one part, it is a balanced system. Every component has to withstand the load created by the others.

Controller (MCU)

Tuning the factory controller, or a high-current eBMX/SiliXcon. We set current, torque curve and protections - so power is delivered under control.

Battery and BMS

We build custom Li-ion packs in-house in Kaunas: more capacity, high discharge current and a BMS that protects the cells from overload and overheating.

Cooling

More current = more heat. We improve heat dissipation from motor and controller, so power does not fade after the first few minutes and component life is not cut short.

Drivetrain and chassis

Sprocket ratio to suit the goal (traction vs speed), chain, brakes and tyres. We match them so the Storm Bee behaves predictably and safely.

Wiring

QS8 connectors, 6AWG power cables, fuses and contactors, a clean Domino-type throttle - a reliable electrical side with no improvisation.

Safety and protections

Current limits, thermal protections and insulation. We raise power only as far as the system can take it - beyond that, a power gain turns into a failure.

05  Configuration

Off-road or street? Two different setups

The same Storm Bee can be an aggressive motocrosser or a civilised street machine. The power profile, gearing, tyres and lighting all differ - we choose the setup to match how you ride.

ParameterOff-road / MX setupStreet (road-legal) setup
Power profileAggressive, instant torqueSmooth, predictable response
Gear ratioShorter - maximum tractionLonger - speed and efficiency
TyresKnobby, soft terrainMixed / street-rated
RegenerationMinimal - freer rollingStronger - efficiency in town
Lighting and hornOptionalRequired (lights, mirrors, indicators)
UseTrack, private landPublic roads (subject to registration)

For public road use, the relevant framework across Europe is EU L1e type-approval, but the details are set by each country. We help prepare the bike and advise on the usual requirements - whether registration is possible depends on the specific model and its documents, so always check the rules where you live.

06  Cost and process

What determines the cost of Storm Bee tuning

We cannot quote a fixed price, because every project is different. But you always get a clear, itemised quote before work starts - no surprises.

  • 01The chosen stage. Stage 1 controller tuning costs considerably less than a full Stage 3 with a custom battery and chassis work.
  • 02Controller. Whether we tune the factory MCU or fit a high-current eBMX / SiliXcon controller.
  • 03Battery specification. Capacity (Ah), the discharge current required and the cell type feed straight into the cost.
  • 04Cooling solutions. How much heat dissipation has to be improved for your power target.
  • 05Drivetrain and chassis. Sprocket, chain, brake and tyre work, plus the parts themselves.
  • 06Road-legal components. If we prepare it for the street - lighting, mirrors, indicators and wiring.

08  FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How much does Sur-Ron Storm Bee tuning cost?

The cost depends on the stage you choose and the components. Controller (MCU) tuning alone (Stage 1) costs considerably less than a full Stage 3 with a custom battery, cooling and chassis work. We give you a specific, itemised quote after a short conversation about your model and your goal. Call +370 604 15255 or email info@fabiride.com. Our work and parts carry a warranty, and we always agree the scope before starting.

Can a Storm Bee be made even more powerful than stock?

Yes. The factory ~22.5 kW peak can be raised by tuning the controller and/or fitting a high-current controller (eBMX, SiliXcon) together with a suitable battery and cooling. The key is balance: we raise power only as far as the battery, motor and wiring can safely take it, so the gain lasts instead of being a one-off.

How does the tuning process work?

We start with diagnostics and preparation (Stage 0): we check the battery, BMS, controller, wiring loom and cooling, so we know what the system can take. We agree the goal and send you a quote - work only begins once you approve it. Then we go stage by stage: controller tuning (Stage 1) and, if needed, a custom battery, cooling and chassis work. Every stage is load-tested and road-tested, and covered by a warranty. You can send us the bike, or just the part that needs programming.

Does tuning damage the battery or the motor?

Done properly, no. The risk appears when power is raised without matching cooling, without a battery capable of the discharge current, and without BMS protection. We always set safe current and temperature limits, and our custom packs are built with protective electronics. That is exactly why we work in stages.

Will I be able to ride it on public roads?

That depends on whether the bike is intended for off-road use or prepared and registered for public roads. A street (road-legal) setup needs lighting, mirrors and indicators, and whether registration is possible depends on the specific model and its documents. Rules differ from country to country, so check your national requirements - we help prepare the bike and advise on what is usually needed.

Do you work on more than the Storm Bee?

Yes. We cover the whole Sur-Ron line (Light Bee X, Ultra Bee, Storm Bee), Talaria (Sting R, MX3/MX4) and Eride Pro models - tuning, repair, electronics, BMS and custom batteries. As a high-voltage platform, the Storm Bee simply demands more attention to the power components.

Do I have to send the bike to you?

Our workshop is in Kaunas, S. Raštikio g. 28 (Mon-Fri 10:00-18:00). Most parts we ship straight to you across the EU and worldwide. For deeper electronics and battery work, send us the bike or just the component - get in touch and we will arrange the most convenient way.
