This is a KT (Kunteng) motor controller supplied with a matching KT-LCD3 display, built for 24 V and 36 V electric bikes and conversion kits rated up to 350 W. The controller drives three-phase brushless BLDC motors fitted with Hall sensors. Maximum working current is 17 A. Together, the two parts replace or upgrade the electronics on an existing e-bike.

Please note what this package is and is not. It is a motor controller plus display only. A motor and a battery are not included, and sensors connect separately. The KT-LCD3 display uses the closed KT protocol. Therefore, it works only with controllers that speak the KT (Kunteng) protocol. It will not pair with Bafang, APT, S866 or SW900 controllers.

The kit suits riders repairing failed e-bike electronics as well as builders assembling a conversion kit from parts. In addition, it appeals to anyone who wants richer ride data than a basic LED panel can show.

Key Benefits

  • 3 / 5 / 9 assist levels – precise power dosing for different riding conditions and terrain.
  • PAS pedal assist – smooth acceleration as you pedal, without sudden jerks or surges.
  • KT-LCD3 display – shows speed, trip distance, battery charge level and error codes at a glance.
  • P and C parameter menus – set wheel diameter, magnet count, speed limiter and assist levels directly on screen.
  • Adjustable speed limiter – tune the cut-off through the C parameter menu to match local regulations.
  • Multiple protections – low voltage, overcurrent, short circuit and overheating safeguards are built in.
  • Brake cut-off function – power is interrupted during braking when brake sensors are connected.
  • Broad battery support – runs with Li-ion, LiFePO₄ and SLA battery packs.

Who Is This Controller For?

This controller fits electric bikes and conversion kits with a system voltage of 24 V or 36 V and power up to 350 W. It works with hub motors and other three-phase BLDC motors that use Hall sensors, most commonly in a three-sensor layout. Wiring follows KT standard connectors throughout.

Compatible control inputs include a thumb throttle, a half-twist grip and a full-twist grip, all operating across the 0-5 V signal range. PAS sensors and brake sensors connect as well. On the display side, the package uses the KT-LCD3, so every plug matches the KT standard.

One point deserves attention before you build. EU pedelec rules (EPAC) define a 250 W rated output and a 25 km/h assist cut-off. A 350 W system can exceed those class limits, so check how your local rules apply to your build.

Why Choose This Controller and Display

The KT-LCD3 turns setup into an on-bike task rather than a workshop job. Through the P and C menus you enter wheel diameter and magnet count, then adjust the speed limiter and the number of assist levels. Consequently, you can fine-tune the same hardware for a commuter build or a cargo build without swapping parts.

Protection coverage is another practical reason to pick this pair. Low voltage, overcurrent, short circuit and thermal safeguards all run in the background. Meanwhile, the brake cut-off drops power the moment your brake sensors trigger. The display also reports error codes, so faults are easier to trace than with an LED panel.

Flexibility on the input side matters too. Thumb throttles and both twist-grip styles work on the same 0-5 V signal, and Li-ion, LiFePO₄ and SLA packs are all supported. As a result, the controller adapts to most 24 V and 36 V builds you are likely to encounter.

Installation and First Start

  • Observe polarity – respect the +/- markings and pair motor phases with Hall sensor leads correctly.
  • Use adequate wiring – avoid thin cable on the power circuit, because current reaches 17 A.
  • Lift the wheel first – perform the initial power-up with the drive wheel off the ground.
  • Check the basics – confirm rotation direction, PAS operation and any error codes on screen.
  • Set the parameters – enter wheel diameter, magnet count and limiter values in the P and C menus.
  • Mount it well – place the controller in a ventilated position for stable operation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this display work with a Bafang or APT controller?

  • No. The KT-LCD3 uses the closed KT protocol.
  • Bafang, APT, S866 and SW900 controllers are not compatible.
  • Pair it only with controllers that support the KT (Kunteng) protocol.

Which motors is this KT controller compatible with?

  • Three-phase brushless BLDC motors with Hall sensors.
  • Hub motors are a typical match, usually with three sensors.
  • System voltage must be 24 V or 36 V, with power up to 350 W.

Is a motor or battery included?

  • No. The package covers the controller and the KT-LCD3 display.
  • Motor, battery and sensors connect separately.
  • All connections use KT standard plugs.

Which throttles can I connect?

  • Thumb throttle, half-twist grip and full-twist grip.
  • All must work within the 0-5 V signal range.
  • PAS sensors and brake sensors connect as well.

Can I change the speed limit?

  • Yes. The limiter is adjustable through the C parameter menu.
  • Set it according to the rules that apply where you ride.
  • Assist levels can be configured as 3, 5 or 9 steps.

What does the display show while riding?

  • Speed, trip distance and battery charge level.
  • Error codes for diagnosing electrical faults.
  • Current assist level from the selected 3, 5 or 9 step range.

Is a 350 W system road legal in the EU?

  • EU pedelec rules (EPAC) specify 250 W rated power and a 25 km/h assist limit.
  • A 350 W system may exceed those class limits.
  • Check your national regulations before building.

What current rating should my wiring handle?

  • Maximum working current is 17 A.
  • Use appropriately sized cable on the power circuit.
  • Thin wire on the battery side is not suitable.

With adjustable assist levels, a configurable speed limiter and four layers of electrical protection, this KT controller and KT-LCD3 pair gives 24 V and 36 V builds up to 350 W a clear, serviceable electronics package. Set your wheel diameter and magnet count on screen, connect your PAS, throttle and brake sensors, and the system is ready to ride.
